Somaliland is heading towards its presidential election on November 13 in which 704, 089 registered voters are expected to elect a new president.
In that regard, there are three candidates who are each willing to replace the country’s fourth president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo who has made history for not running another term.
The three candidates are Muse Bihi Abdi of the ruling KULMIYE, Faisal Ali Warabe of UCID and Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro of Waddani party.
Each candidate will try to attract and persuade people to vote for him. Each nominee will undoubtedly try to win the hearts and minds of the nation.
Each candidate will go through restless and hardship days and nights in order to shine. They will face off debates that will be televised Nationwide as an insight into what the candidates have to offer.
The aim of the debate is to promote Somaliland democracy into the next level as the international communities are watching the outcome of this election.
All three candidates have already publicly committed to peaceful elections and I expect the public or the players to practice the same.
The people of Somaliland are the players who will decide the winner by voting and choosing the right candidate.
The team that scores most goals will undoubtedly be the squad that will take or choose one of those candidates in the hot seat. It’s not the first time that Somaliland conducted or held election.
Somaliland has held presidential elections in 2003 and 2010 including a parliamentary election in 2005.
This election will be completely different from all previous elections in terms of technology. We will apply the latest technology, Iris-recognition biometric voter registration system at the 1700 polling stations in the country where no one is able to cheat or tamper with Somaliland has attracted international interest, particularly from the European Union and the United Kingdom who are supporting the country to hold credible elections.
Election observers are expected from several other countries to witness the election process in the country, the country described as the most peaceful in the Horn of Africa area.
Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia on May 18, 1991. It has been under pressure to hold talks with Somalia, which have so far been unsuccessful.
Somaliland, with a population of approximately 5 Million, have own army, its own currency and legal organization that works.
Somaliland enjoyed stability and economic prosperity. It has been influential in the fight against piracy and terrorism in the Horn of Africa.
26 years of diplomatic isolation have made it difficult for Somaliland to have access to loans from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
One advice to all three candidates.
Please abstain preaching incitement and reminding people for our losses and bad memories to the campaign, try to win people’s heart and vote One advice to public
The country is bigger than the president therefore don’t try to leave the country in ruins or destroy the public security and the prosperity that have enjoyed for the past 26 years Peace is the beauty of life. It is sunshine. It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother, the joy of a father, the togetherness of a family. It is the advancement of man, the victory of a just cause, the triumph of truth.
